Superb win for Stoner and another podium for Pedrosa at Jerez

Casey Stoner took his first ever MotoGP victory at the Grand Prix of Spain and Dani Pedrosa, third on his 100th race in MotoGP, joined him on the podium at the Jerez circuit, where the Repsol Honda Team has celebrated the second consecutive double podium of the season.

The current World Champion had a difficult start but quickly recovered proving to have something extra in his pocket to fight for his first victory of the season after a superb race in front of a strong Lorenzo.

Dani Pedrosa had a perfect start again, but he got passed on the second lap and dropped to the fourth position. The Spaniard was quite cautious at the beginning and lost precious time that he was unable to regain in the second half of the race, when he started lapping faster than the leaders.

Dani recovered 3 seconds in the last 13 laps and held off the pressure from Cal Crutchlow to finish third and taste the podium at Jerez for the eighth successive year.CASEY STONER1st World Championship Positio…

Pedrosa 2nd and Stoner 5th in thrilling pole at Grand Prix of Spain

Qualifying at the Jerez circuit was the first dry session of the weekend and the Repsol Honda riders wasted no time on setting up their RC213V machines. Fastest times were exchanged throughout the beginning of the session but after 30 minutes the threat of rain appeared again. Only a few drops fell and both Dani and Casey were able to continue their preparation and push for the fastest time.

In the final five minutes it became a two-man battle with Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo taking pole and Dani following close behind just 0.135 off Lorenzo's time. Casey missed the front row by just 0.014 of a second and will start from fifth position.

In the past six years, Dani has always started from 1st or 2nd on the grid (1st - 2007 and 2010, 2nd - 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012).

The first day of practice was affected by sporadic rain. The Repsol Honda riders didn't get out on track in the morning session and both Dani and Casey started working with the wet set up in the afternoon to prepare the first european race that is expected, and most likely to be under rain conditions.
DANI PEDROSA1st 1'50.780"It has been a strange day due to the weather conditions. In the morning we decided to not go out because the track was not wet enough then we had more or less the same conditions in the afternoon, but it was necessary to do some laps and get some rhythm. The first feeling on the bike was good for me, the bike felt good and I'm ridi…

Highly motivated Repsol Honda Team heads to Jerez

This week the 2012 MotoGP World Championship heads to the south of Spain for the Jerez Grand Prix, the second round on the calendar.

Following the positive Championship debut with two podium finishes at Losail circuit - second place for Dani Pedrosa and third for Casey Stoner - the Repsol Honda riders arrive in Jerez confident and look forward to repeating the same good potential they showed in pre-season at this track.

The pre-season tests are a good reference to start working from this weekend. Casey Stoner managed to set the fastest lap (1'38.780) while Dani Pedrosa, lapped under his circuit record in Jerez (1'39.731 in 2010) with a best lap time of 1'39.157 and did a race simulation maintaining a high pace.

Well done to Dani and Casey

Well done to the guys for a great race. Its a shame Casey suffered arm pump making him lose the lead. Well done to Dani for a second place and Casey for his third place.

The 2012 season is underway, and there could be no better way to kickstart it than under the floodlights of Qatar in a great MotoGP race. Experiencing an almost polar opposite turnaround in fortunes, Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner both placed on the podium at Losail. Pedrosa took second place and was in with a chance of victory before he ran out of laps, ending the race less than a second behind the winner. Teammate Casey Stoner had dominated for most of the Grand Prix, but was hampered by an arm-pump issue in his right forearm and eventually dropped down to third.
After months of preparation and three days of hard work at the Losail International Circuit, the first MotoGP race of the year finally got underway at 10pm local time. The Repsol Honda Team were amongst the favourites for the win, with Casey Stone…

Repsol Honda Team continue set-up work for first race of 2012

The Repsol Honda Team finished the second day of practice at Losail circuit with Casey Stoner in third position and Dani Pedrosa fifth.

The Australian World Champion set the fastest time in FP2 and was leading in FP3 until others put on a new soft rear to take the fastest time of the day. Casey improved his lap time by 0.3 in the evening even though he remained on hard tyres until the end.

Dani Pedrosa crashed in FP2, without sustaining any injury, and was only able to use one bike in the second session of the evening, whilst his mechanics worked hard to build up the damaged machine. Nevertheless, Dani also improved his lap time by half a second from one session to the other.

The Repsol Honda riders return on track tomorrow night for the first qualifying session of the season, which will decide the starting grid for the Grand Prix of Qatar.

Repsol Honda Team prepare for Qatar

The 2012 MotoGP World Championship officially starts this weekend in Qatar, the small Peninsula off the Persian Gulf, noted for hosting the only race of the calendar under floodlights. The Grand Prix of Qatar is, without any doubt, one of the most spectacular races of the season.

Months of development, testing and hard work have gone into the preparation for this season which sees a switch to 1000cc bikes. In addition to this change the Repsol Honda Team faces another challenge; defending the Triple Crown they achieved in 2011 when they won the rider, team and constructor titles.

Casey Stoner, the current MotoGP World Champion, has also been the man to beat in pre-season, dominating both tests in Malaysia and Jerez, where his teammate, Dani Pedrosa, also confirmed himself as one of the fastest riders in the top class.

The wait is over and the next time that both Repsol Honda riders will go on track will be on Thursday for the first free practice of the GP of Qatar. Two mor…
